Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 now available for S$438

Sony Ericsson unveiled the midrange Xperia X8 back in June during CommunicAsia 2010 in Singapore. The company gave this Android smartphone an estimated 200 euro retail tag. Given the prices of budget Android handsets that we have seen from other manufacturers, such as LG and Huawei, 200 euros does appear too optimistic now. But not to worry. Even though the X8 won't go for a rock-bottom price, it will still be quite affordable.
Today, Sony Ericsson announced the X8 will sell for S$438. This isn't too different from the other budget Android devices (summarized here) such as theLG Optimus One and Samsung Galaxy 3. The X8 also comes with quite a number of features like an HVGA screen, a scratch-resistant LCD and the company's Timescape interface. The downside is that it will still ship with Android 1.6 (Donut), with a future update to Android 2.1 (Eclair). The company has not said if another update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) is forthcoming.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is now in Singapore and will be sold across Asia Pacific aside from Thailand. Check with your local operator for exact availability dates.
