Does the HTC Hero come with T9 input for text messages? If not, does it has a function where it will auto-correct words while typing SMSes?

Yes, the HTC Hero supports T9 for composing text messages. To enable that, go into Settings -> Locale & text -> Touch Input Chinese (under Text settings) -> English input settings (under Input method & Keyboard) and check the Prediction box.
