nokia N900 or HTC touch pro2 comparison

comparison between the Nokia N900 and the HTC Touch Pro 2. Aesthetically both phones look the same, Touch Screen and QWERTY keyboard, this was the reason for me to write about them in order to point out their differences.

As my other comparison was, I’m going to follow the same rules. I’m not going to talk about each specification of these phones, only the differences and the important ones in my opinion.

■First we got the processor. The HTC Touch Pro comes with a Qualcomm 528 MHz that it’s not bad at all, but the Nokia N900 flashlight this with the ARM Cortex A8 600Mhz.

■The OS. Nokia N900 presents the Maemo 5, a new OS for mobile phones (open source) that it’s very promising and there is an increasing expectation around it. On the other device, the HTC Touch Pro 2 we found the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. A very well known OS.
■The Camera on the Nokia N900 is a 5MP one, against a 3.2MP Camera on the HTC Touch Pro 2.

■Dimension & Weight. The Nokia N900 sizes are 110,9 x 59,8 x 18 (19,55) mm while on the HTC Touch Pro 2 are 116 X 59.2 X 17.25 mm (just a little more “tall” 5mm). Their weight it’s pretty much the same, a 181g on the Nokia N900 and 175g on the HTC Touch Pro.

■There is a big difference on the QWERTY Key board. The Nokia N900 has the one we are used to that would be 3 lines while the HTC Touch Pro 2 presents a 5 lines keyboard, interesting!(Check the images below to see this)
■What it’s new on the HTC Touch Pro 2 is technology called StraightTalk, for linking the various platforms of communication that this device has (never been so easy to go from an email to a call or a message). Also comes with a second microphone in order to leave the HTC Touch Pro 2 on a table face down and automatically switch to hands free operation. This really helps when being on a call-conference (For more information about these new technologies, please click here).
■On the Internet subject, the HTC Touch Pro 2 doesn’t present anything new, just what you can expect on a PDA. While on the Nokia N900 full internet like we talk about on others posts.

■Finally, both phones present the same features like Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc.
In my opinion, the HTC Touch Pro is made for a different kind of customer. A business customer who needs to be in touch all the time, from conference to conference. That’s the reason for the aim of the new technologies that the HTC Touch Pro 2 presents. While the Nokia N900 customer would be someone who needs to be in touch with his contacts (msn, Skype, Google Talk, etc.), who needs Internet all the time and likes to share photos, videos, etc. More like a Social customer.Share This Post on Twitter Just Click Tweet Button

Verizon wireless data plan

Verizon Wireless made this shift a little more evident as it unveiled new pricing for its plans which will launch on January 18. These plans cut the cost of voice by as much as 30%, but tack on an additional data consumption fee for all but the simplest feature phones.

1-The device is designed not to turn off. The only real way to turn it off is to pull out the battery. This goes for all the smartphones as well.

2-All of our smartness have a ringer silent switch at the top of the device. So you can slide the switch to have sound to no sound with vibrate. Also all the devices have a volume switch on the left side of the device so if you want to turn your ringer down you can do so. But the device is not designed to turn off completely due to the phone. If the device turns off completely then the device cannot receive calls. Also this goes for just about all phones on the market.

3-if you have an e mail account setup on your device? And what account is it pop/imap or EAS with your company? The powerman software in not familler with but any program that can change the power settings is quite possable to change other things even if it was not designed to do so.

Getting around Verizon's data requirement

Is there anyway to get around Verizon's data requirement for getting certain phones? I want to get a nice one but I do not want to have the data package. Is is possible to get a phone with the data for one month and then drop the data?


you can get whats called pay as you go and you can have the phone, but every time you use the data package its costs money so you have to be careful about which applications you use and if they access the internet. But if you do not plan on using the internet or data its a good idea.

No it's not possible. It's required by the company that makes the phone, not the company that sells you the phone (Verizon). It's required with all phone companies now. So even if you bought the phone for full price to avoid a contract with a phone company, you still need to eventually use the phone on someones network to get it to work. And when you do that they have full right to send you a bill charging you for a data plan. It's the way the companies work now. Apple, Blackberry, ect. They do it because they want more money and want their phones to be used for what they're made for. Sorry. I've tried to get around it myself. It's impossible unless you're doing something highly illegal.

Answer:

Sometimes you get further by calling Verizon's 800 number and dealing with them directly rather than going to one of their stores, or a 3rd party store that has Verizon in it. When I got my LG Dare, I was told I "had" to get a particular plan with it from an employee at a Verizion store. I went home and called their 800 number and discovered that no, I did not have to have that plan. Went back to the store and they did a, "Oh, um, no, you don't really need THAT plan, but you won't enjoy the phone without it". Uh - right. So call Verizon's 800 line and see what you can get out of them.

Alternative: If your contract is up, there are other options if you want. For example, the Net10 prepaid phones in most areas use the Verizon network for their signals, and while most of their phones are not exactly state of the art, they do have one Samsung model with a full keyboard - found HERE.

Alternative 2: Walmart now offers their own prepaid phone service called "straight talk" in select areas, and it's actually owned by Net10, but operated separately. It also uses the Verizion system for piggybacking calls. You can get 1000 minutes/texts a month for a flat $30 rate, or unlimited for $45 a month. They also do offer a touch smart phone you can get for it (though you do have to pay $$ for it - still, no contract or extra data plan required). Found HERE.

Is 3g on a mobile phone free to use ? I am getting a new contract on Orange. Its 20 a month 400 Minutes and unlimited texts. The phone I am getting is the Nokia E71 and it comes free with the contract. It comes with 3G and I was wandering if 3G is free to use or would I always have to be near a WiFI spot to use the 3G. in some places it says 3G is free and in others it says it costs I thought it would be like the iPhone where the internet doesnt cost anything and you can go on it anywhere.

There is nothing about it in the contract in fact it doesnt mention internet. Nokia 6300 display issues

My phone has been through a bit of trouble since I bought it. It fell out of my pocket while running across the road and a truck ran over it. Amazingly it was still on. It was left on the roof of the car and we drove on the freeway before it fell off. A buddhist nun found it and called my girlfriend who got in back for me. Still worked fine with barely a scratch.

Coincidentally it now has some problems with the screen. It isnt cracked or broken but every so often it gets all pixelated random colors for each pixel or the colers get inverted or part of the screen goes black. It is always in a vertical band not just random sections. At first I thought that the housing had been damaged and so the screen was being compacted against the case but Im now thinking that the ribbon cable has been partially damaged and so the connection is not complete.

The main question is whether it would be worth my while to buy a replacement screen off eBay for a small sum and replace it myself. I have the tools the time and the determination to make it work I just want to know whether it is even worth considering.

On a similar note does anyone have any tips on getting a ribbon cable to fit in its socket? My camera screen got cracked and I bought a replacement but it seems that the socket got damaged at some point and the cable will not fit properly. There seems to be three levels the top pins a small plastic seperator and the bottom pins. The cable should fit between the bottom pins and the seperator but since it the seperator is cracked it manages to get in the way and the cable will not fit all the way in. The cable in question is the one that controls the focus so the camera turns on the lens cycles in and out a few times then turns back off. Is buying an unlocked iphone a good idea? I have 450 minute phone plan with unlimited texting and unlimited data on my old phone with ATT. My old phone is a Nokia 6102i. If I buy an unlocked iphone would I be able to put my sim card in the iphone and use it the same as if I bought an iphone under contract with the iphone plans? My bill currently is around 80 a month. If I buy an iphone with the same plan I will pay around 100 a month.

No My friend recently done this and ended up with software on it which burned out the system. Your contract is simply for the use of your allowance on the simcard provided you can use whichever phone you want with that simcard. I think it is a good idea as the iPhone is a really good phone and i would do the same in our shoes.

Only Buy Phones and IPhones that you can get warranty on Or Buy A New Sim Card with alot more memory I would not trust putting diff sim cards in dif phones. Buying an GMS unlocked Phone is for a No contract phone I hope this Helps You.The sim card will work.

How to fix my Nokia 6126?

I have a Nokia 6126 that I bought from someone because they were getting rid of it and I liked the phone when I had it. The guy I bought it from said there was something wrong with the phone and I was aware of that when I bought it as he told me in advance.

I tested it out and it keeps spazzing out sometimes it will stay still for a few seconds but then itll keep going back to the main screen and then a black screen and will altercate every few milliseconds. I was wondering if there was any way I can fix this without having to send it to a shop. What's your view on the new htc hd2 from t-mobile?

i think its an awesome phone. Specs look top-notch and the price is supposed to be very reasonable. That being said, DO NOT BUY ONE NOW.

6300 has stopped ringing when called. it do vibrates. like it it is in permanent silent mode. It does beep when I input numbers via keypad.. recently done a firmware update.

nokia 5230 Email gadget disappeared from home screen

I'm using he Nokia Messaging (email.nokia.com) application for push email. Yesterday I added an Exchange account from my company. It installed Mail for Exchange and everything went smoothly. After a few minutes the Email widget on the Home screen disappeared.

I uninstalled Mail for Exchange and Nokia Messaging but still won't appear again. I even setup an email account using the phones integrated client and still it doesn't show up. On the screen there's only an empty field, as wide as the screen, which changes it's color on click. Right now the only email app installed is Nokia Messaging.

I tried restoring the phone to factory settings but that didn't work. I tried reinstalling the email application but that didn't help either. I finally resorted to formatting the phone using some *#77__# code which I do not remember completely. The result was that I had a phone as fresh as I had received when I purchased it. I change the theme to 'Shortcuts bar' and go back into 'Homescreen' I am given 5 options to display. Shortcuts, Search, Music Player, Radio and Calendar. However, only 'Shortcuts' and 'Search' actually work, and it doesn' event allow for E-mail notification as an option. Any work arounds/fixes for this problem, or am I doing something wrong?

My 5230 came wih Facebook for Symbian preinstalled but through human error I accidentally uninstalled it. The problem is that Ovi store remains adamant that the 5230 can't run Facebook Symbian so I can't reinstall it again. whats the soloution?

downloading the Symbian Facebook App install file from another website and manually installing it on my phone. The application works perfectly fine and this has resolved the issue. I wish I could say where I got the install file from but I believe there may be rules against that. A web search may do the trick. Nokia is facing the high lead of competition in Pakistan and the company not known for aggressive marketing is coming up with new approaches to market the Nokia 5230 , their most inexpensive touch handset around .

I like was the hands on experience, there were three guys inside with Nokia 5230, the one I talked to Mr Sarosh , had the one configured for Gaming ,i.e. had the Need For Speed Shift installed on it,I asked him a few questions and found Nokia had trained them well. He was not only fluent in specs about his own 5230 but also had the information about competition i.e Samsung Genoa and Corby, knew about Symbian and it’s advantages over Java based phones and of course about OVI Services. Kudos to Nokia on that.

Another great feature was the large touch screen replicas of phone, which were linked with the phone and fully functional mobile interfaces, powered by Remote S60 Professional. In conjunction with the Experience Bus, Nokia also had a lucky draw for Nokia 5230 and for that they were giving out OVI Service booklets hoping people will read it. So where are people getting the information that the Nokia Nuron won't require a data plan? Most people here say it won't, but on the t-mobile forums there are people that are saying you do because it's a smartphone. The first link posted on the issue on these thread actually makes no mention of whether or not the phone will require a data plan.

A lot of people claim the phone will be released March 17th though I doubt it. If that was truly the date don't you think it would have appeared on TMO website by now? The HTC HD2 is already on there and that one isn't slated for a March 24th date, so perhaps the Nuron won't even be released this month?

E71 power button jammed

one touch of my power button causes it to open the profile menu, and then it restarts on it's own, without me holding it. Then it comes back on by itself too, like the power button is jammed. When I pull the battery out, and leave it out for whatever length of time (I tried 10-20 min), as soon as the battery is back in, it turns itself on.

As of the last few days, it has decided than when I place it on a table, or sometimes just getting moved around in my pocket, it wants to restart.

I do NOT want to send it back to manufacturer, as they will give me a $4 phone to use, and still charge me data rates and all that for 8 weeks. But is there a fix for this, like a program or something that alters what the power button does? Can I disable the power button at all?

6700 C keeps on turning off

mine 6700 Classic turns itself off fairly often. I've been on hold for a long time and then have to start all over again during 15 minute wait time or whatever. I'm not sure what kind of data transfer you are referring to, but if they are pictures, videos and music, these should be stored on the memory card on your E71. You can simply copy all these into the memory card that comes with the Magic, or just use the same card on the Magic. The device should be able to read the content on the flash media.

How can i delete or uninstall themes on a Nokia E66? I try to do file manager and gallery but I couldn't find the theme files there. In the theme selection mode there's no option to delete. I want to install new themes but I'd like to remove some of the old ones to free some space.

Go to Tools then App Manager to uninstall the theme. If the theme isn't there, then you may want to this try alternative method which worked for some users. Connect your phone to the PC using the Mass Storage mode. Look for a folder named "Private" -> "10207114" -> "Import". The themes are supposed to be stored here on the memory card. Go to "skn" in each of these folders (named by numbers) to find the theme you want to delete. If you can't open the file, then you'll have to use Notepad to open it. Once you locate the theme's folder, delete everything in that folder including the folder itself.
